The C.A.R.E. Program

An Overview

C.A.R.E. is an acronym for Certified Airmask Repair Education. The Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) maintenance course is specially designed and developed to address the MSA Air Mask repair and maintenance requirements of our Channel Partners and end-users.

C.A.R.E. classes should only be attended by those individuals who are, or will be, assigned to maintain and repair MSA Air Masks on a frequent basis and have the mechanical aptitude, experience and skill-set to perform the work requirement.

Successful completion of the class certifies an organization as an MSA Authorized Air Mask Maintenance Center, enabling C.A.R.E. Certified Repair Persons to perform the highest level of SCBA maintenance and repair on MSA Air Masks.

C.A.R.E. program classes will be offered at pre-determined locations and dates. Advance registration is required. The registration fee is $500.00 per person per day. Your purchase order or credit card information is required at the time of registration. An invoice will be mailed to you upon completion of the class. Transportation and lodging is the responsibility of the individual.

Included in the fee is:

  • The one day C.A.R.E. Training Class, conducted by an MSA factory trained instructor
  • Use of the appropriate SCBA Regulators, Audi-Larm™ assemblies, cylinder valves and tools for hands-on disassembly and reassembly
  • A C.A.R.E. Certified Maintenance Manual and support material
  • Lunch and refreshments during breaks in the training

The MMR (Mask-Mounted Regulator) class takes one full day, beginning at 8:00 a.m. A separate BMR (Belt-Mounted Regulator) class also takes one full day. Scheduling of a BMR class can be arranged based on demand. Class size must be six to eight participants. MSA reserves the right to cancel classes, if necessary, for reasons beyond our control. Advance notice will be given.

Prior to attending a training class, the host company must have all the necessary tools, lubricants and sealants. An MSA authorized SCBA tester with current software is required.

At the completion of the one day training class, each attendee must successfully complete a written examination based upon information presented during the class. MSA will notify the attendee’s company as to its certification based on the examination results and evaluation by the instructor of the attendee’s performance during the class.

Class size will be kept to a maximum of eight (8) attendees so as to provide consistently high quality instruction to each attendee.

IMPORTANT!
Each MSA Authorized Air Mask Maintenance Center must appoint an administrator of its maintenance and repair program who will be responsible to maintain:
  • The proper facilities, equipment and personnel to provide quality service on MSA Air Masks.

  • The appropriate up-to-date manuals, tools, tester and other equipment needed to perform SCBA maintenance, repair and testing in accordance with MSA’s instructions and procedures.
  • The quality of its service at the highest level possible.

After three years, each MSA Authorized Air Mask Maintenance Center will be audited by a trained and qualified MSA Representative to determine whether that facility is qualified to be recertified. Recertification will depend upon that Center:
  • Having the necessary tools, lubricants, sealants and an MSA authorized SCBA tester with valid calibration.

  • Having MSA Certified Repair Persons with the skills, equipment and MSA replacement parts required to properly maintain and repair MSA SCBA.
After six years MSA Certified Repair Persons working at the MSA Authorized Air Mask Maintenance Center, must attend a C.A.R.E. class to maintain their listing on their company’s certificate.
